Writing, yard

I got chapter 2 of my three chapter novelette, For the Love of Trees, in the mail today for the next round of TNEO critiquing. I had a few good thoughts about it while lying in bed being lazy this morning. There is definitely something to be said for being lazy. I have some of my best thoughts that way, then get up and write them down.Unfortunately, one of the thoughts relates to things that I really should have included in chapter 1 but didn't, so that will have to wait for now. I don't think it's worthwhile to make another round of edits before I have it critiqued.I'm used to the world of my Dryads and how their society operates from having written my novel. The reader of the novelette will not be. I have some recapitulation of a Dryad telling things about her culture to the protagonist, but now I think I probably should expand some of that into an honest-to-goodness scene. I've made a note if it in my "things to fix later" list.In chapter three I'm thinking of having a minor character mentioned in chapter one play more of a role, in order to shed some more light on the Dryads' culture. If I do this it will probably mean beefing up her role earlier on. We shall see.In other news, Stephan and I did more yard work today, then went for a swim. Us professor-types have it nice once the semester is over. Maybe we will actually have a garden and not a jungle by the end of the summer! Of course, I think that every year and then look what happens.Tonight we are going to a gallery tour in Broad Ripple and out for drinks.
