Career cruising

Everybody's doing it!1. Go to www.careercruising.com.2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.3. Take their "Career Matchmaker" questions.4. Post the top umpty results.5. Bold the ones you've done, and italicize the ones you've considered. Strikethrough those you strongly dislike.(I'm bolding everything I have done for pay even if it was part-time or as part of a job. I'm also striking through ones that I like the idea of but know there isn't a chance in hell I'd be capable of, and adding a few comments.)My top 20:1. Computer Trainer (Huh? I didn't bold this though in a couple office jobs I was the default person to help out when someone was having computer troubles. Doesn't mean I liked it or was particularly good at it, though.)2. Actor3. Anthropologist (I once considered going back to school in cultural anthropology.)4. Professor (Ok, my job title is "Instructor" but I teach college students so close enough.)5. Comedian (I can occasionally be funny but usually not on purpose!)6. Musician7. Critic8. Casting Director9. Activist (Yes, I actually did this for a living, though not much of one, between college and grad school.)10. ESL Teacher11. Foreign Language Instructor12. Print Journalist (A few articles/interviews published in classical music magazines.)13. Writer (See above. No professional fiction sales yet, but given the fact that I've only submitted 3-4 things this is not surprising.)14. Music Teacher / Instructor (This is how I make most of my living.)15. Political Aide16. Market Research Analyst17. Composer (I'd love to but I've only ever composed a couple of things. It takes me forever and the end result isn't much.)18. Translator19. Special Effects Technician20. Communications Specialist (I'm not even sure exactly what this is!)The quiz is not terribly scientific, and the way the questions are phrased it tests what you are interested in rather than what you are good at or have the skills to do. Most useful probably for younger people not in the workforce yet who need to decide what classes to study hard in. Still, most of the things I've done for a living and enjoyed show up somewhere in the top 20. They tend to lump anything artistic together even though the skills needed may be completely different. I actually took the test twice, because the first time I got lots of visual art oriented things like animator, costume designer, set designer, etc. and I can't even draw let alone design anything. When I retook it I expressed less interest in the question "Having your own creative ideas about designs and styles" and that solved that problem.
