Writing and singing

I submitted a substantially revised chapter 2 of my novel for my writing group yesterday. I've been dawdling with the rewrite because I'm afraid I'll make little line edits and not address larger issues. I think I managed to do both, but as with anything of novel length, I may not know till later chapters if some of the things I changed in this chapter will work. Now I also remember why I sometimes have to put the novel aside. Once I get into writing or editing, it can take over my life and it is so inconvenient when I have to stop to do something like eat or work for a living.I've got a tentative repertoire list for doctoral auditions put together and have been practicing it. The pieces at this point are, in approximate order of date of composition:Francesca Caccini - Che t'ho fatt'ioJ.S. Bach - Sich üben in Lieben (from the Wedding Cantata Weichet nur, betrübe Schatten)Franz Schubert - HeidenrösleinGiuseppe Verdi - Sul fil d'un soffio etesio (from Falstaff)Claude Debussy - Nuit d'étoilesIgor Stravinsky - Anne Truelove's Aria (from The Rake's Progress)Francis Poulenc - Il voleWilliam H. Henderson - Valentine's Day (Ophelia Songs)This fulfills the requirements for styles, languages, opera and oratorio, etc. I might switch out a couple of pieces, depending on where I'm auditioning.
