Cats
We're still enjoying our backyard zoo of four feral cats, now sometimes joined by a kitten we're calling Pearl. We don't know where Pearl came from or where its mom or litter mates are. When Pearl shows up, I sit outside on the step for a little while and fling some cat food in its direction, because otherwise the adult cats would never let it get any. Pearl is very wary and doesn't want to come too close, but today, he/she came within about a foot of me to eat a few pieces of food I had scattered. I got to run my hand down Pearl's back before the kitten ran away. If Pearl sticks around, we will need to trap him/her to get spayed or neutered like the other ones.Shasta is really getting friendly, and wants to come in the house and look around a little bit, but never go too far in. When I open the door, he wants his back scratch and chin scratch and sometimes purrs. I can pick him up and put him in my lap, and he will lie there for a little while. If I see him later on, though, he won't let me touch him and reacts like the other wild cats. Maddie and Addie still won't come too close while I am out there, but Maddie is getting braver and will not run away if I look at her. Shasta's twin brother, Shankar, hisses as usual but comes pretty close. Our Burmese kittens were born on July 6 and we can possibly take them home as early as September 30. We're getting a blue male and a female to go with him, but we're waiting to see which of the others makes the best companion. I haven't seen pictures yet but am hoping to get some soon.
