A year older, and writing update
I don't make new year's resolutions. But occasionally the fact that the number of my age has gone up a digit makes me consider changes I should make in my life. Here are a couple of quick ones, and I'm making no promises about sticking to them, but I'm going to make a good honest try:1. Post a writing update here every Sunday, even if I haven't written a word. Perhaps this will shame me into actually getting more writing done. I admit, I've been pretty dreadful for the past couple of months, though I've jotted some story ideas and even written one.2. Exercise for 20 minutes every day. Really, this should be a no-brainer, but the gym isn't open over school breaks and I'm terrible at exercising on my own. But if nothing else, I can take a brisk walk or bounce on my mini-trampoline.Ok, so here's my writing update for this week. I wrote a summary of my recent California trip in my paper journal. I'll try to post a few highlights here when I get a chance. Today, I wrote a rough draft of my very short chamber opera based on the nursery rhyme, "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater," which I've been kicking around in my head for months. I've got most of scene 1 written, all of scene 2, and notes for what I want to happen in the rest of scene 1 and in scenes 3 and 4. All of this only amounts to 697 words, but I'm aiming for something that, when set to music, will be maybe 7-8 minutes.I haven't done my exercising yet. Better go hop to it.
