Sick
Yesterday morning, my throat started feeling sore. Today, it feels like somebody peeled it, I have a sinus headache, and am starting to develop a wet cough. No fever, fortunately.I'm scheduled to sing the soprano solos in a Bach Cantata on Monday. I've never, ever, had to back out of a performance due to illness. I hope not to this time, but the timing is rather bad. I've sung through several of these Baroque concerts with colds, because the music sits mostly in middle range and I can sing lightly. However, the timing is everything. On the front end of a cold, when my upper throat is sore, but it hasn't made it's way lower yet, I can sing fine, I just need to drink lots of hot herb tea to keep the soreness down to a minimum. On the back end of a cold, if the cough has gone down to an occasional thing, I can get by on cough suppressants and supporting like heck to get my irritated vocal cords to vibrate against each other. If I'm right in the middle of a full-blown cold with a hacking cough ... I sure hope I won't be, but I'm thinking of the names of a couple other sopranos who handle Baroque music well and could learn it quickly.Bah.
