Stupid *$()*#&$ city of Indianapolis
I have a temper, but it is seldom seen. But when I do everything right and still get in trouble, it makes me mad enough to want to throw a fit. I probably should just pay the City of Indianapolis $40 and spare myself the hassle, but I know for a fact that they are mistaken about my parking violation. I have pictures. Only, the picture of the broken parking meter I took with my cell phone doesn't have good enough resolution to show the blinking display. Damn.Back up to about a month ago when I parked in a metered spot in Broad Ripple. I put in a quarter and at least one other coin, maybe a nickel or dime, before I realized that the display was flashing something other than numbers. I believe it was a straight line. Oops--obviously malfunctioning. I had used all my change in the meter. I figured it was pretty obvious the meter was broken, and pressed for time, I went ahead and wolfed down my lunch. Lesson learned: never, ever park in a spot with a broken meter because the people who work checking meters are cretins and don't give a *(*&$.So I come back and I've gotten a ticket. No problem, I think. It's obvious the meter is broken. I called the number on the ticket to report it broken. I called another number to contest it, and had them email me a "void request form." I even took a couple pictures of the meter with my cell phone, showing the meter number on one side and the display on the other. That very day, I mailed back the ticket with the void request form with the meter number and indicating that it was broken. The original ticket was for $20, by the way.Yesterday I got a letter saying I had an unpaid citation of $40 and basically that I better pay up or get taken to court. I called this morning to find out just what the heck was going on, and was told that my void request was denied. I'm proud to say that I avoided any foul language (at least on the phone to the person who answered), but not proud to say that I wasn't terribly nice. The person I spoke to said my request was denied because the meter wasn't broken. Now, that is simply untrue. Apparently, I have to show up in person at the City-County building to contest this. Today I got a letter saying my void request had been denied, with the original ticket and the void form I had filled out enclosed. So, my guess is some idiot fixed the parking meter and didn't record having done so. I seriously doubt that it miraculously fixed itself. I want to go downtown to contest this but I swear it makes me so mad I'm afraid I'll fly off the handle. I mean, somebody LIED (or just didn't do their job properly, which ends up with the same result) and it wasn't me. I'm usually pretty good at not flying off the handle, but being accused of something I did not do (and am SURE I did not do) really really makes me angry. If I pay the $40, to me that is an admission that I just didn't feed the meter and tried to lie my way out of it. BULL )*#7#*)$ing #)(*)#*($ #$(*Y#)(*%$+$O%UO_#I%$U@(*Y&%#... (Ok, you get the idea. I'll stop ranting now.)
