Tattoo

I've put down a deposit, made some plans with the artist, and I'm scheduled to get a tattoo in January! I've kicked the idea around for at least a couple of years but decided that this was the year. Well, the actual tattoo won't be until 2010, but 2009 has been a year of milestones so far, including writing, co-composing, and directing a chamber opera, teaching in an English Department for the first time, injuring my knees and gaining weight, going on a diet and losing the weight, selling two stories and getting two others out in circulation, giving a presentation on my fantasy ballet at Worldcon, taking a fabulous New England trip, and serving as moderator for TNEO, the Odyssey alumni workshop.I had a design in mind that would have been pretty simple, but then I thought, I'll probably only ever get one tattoo. Shouldn't it be something special and unique?I'm getting a blue heron, my favorite bird and something of a totem animal for me. This is the photo I gave the artist, though she's going to come up with something a little less realistic and more stylized:The artist, Laura Black, has some beautiful photos of her work here:Tattoos and Fine Art by Laura BlackI'll see her preliminary sketches in the next few weeks. I'm looking forward to it!
