World Fantasy
I'm back from World Fantasy, and partially recovered. I've never attended that particular convention before because it's tough to get away during the school year, but I'm sure glad I made it work out this year! Columbus being only a three hour drive from Indianapolis, I figured I had no excuse.I really enjoyed getting to catch up with Odyssey classmates, friends, and people I've only "met" on Facebook or Livejournal. I'm not going to list people or I'd surely leave some out, but it was fun to hang out with old friends and meet new ones, talk to writers whose work I admire, meet with the great folks in the Interstitial Arts Foundation working group, and participate in the Broad Universe group reading. And stay up way past my bedtime!I read my short, absurd play, "The Singing Dog," which was performed earlier this year at the Indy Convergence. Because of time constraints, I only used minimal sound effects. It appeared to go over well, with lots of laughs. I was also on a panel about religion in Tolkien. I think a good time was had by all.Though I met lots of people, I couldn't quite bring myself to introduce myself to all the folks I would have liked to meet for fear of butting in or finding myself with nothing to say after, "I loved your book!" Or, "I read your blog!" World Fantasy is definitely a non-stop networking bonanza. As I was sternly reminded by some of my Odyssey colleagues, I need to actually finish a final draft of one of my two novel projects so I have something to pitch next time. My goal is to have "Antonia's Fire" thoroughly written and revised and maybe make it to Toronto in two years.
