Novel creeping along...
I wrote a couple pages on Saturday and a couple more on Sunday and today, but some is very rough and I will have to go back in and fill in a lot of detail, description, etc.Now that the semester has started it is going to be harder to keep going so I'm going to have to do these little short bursts every day or so to at least get something on paper. Today I had six hours of teaching high school students and now will have three hours of private students immediately followed by an opera rehearsal. My brain is working and I am very much "in" the world of the novel, which is a good sign. Last night just before bed I came into my study and scribbled a few sentences just outlining where I wanted to go next with the chapter and how I want to end it.If I don't have a submission ready in time for the September meeting of my novel group, I have a short story which I can submit, but I haven't missed a deadline yet (it has been about one and a half years of a chapter a month) and don't like doing that. I do have a faculty recital coming up, though, for which I feel somewhat underprepared at this point, and that will have to take priority of my copious free time between now and mid-September.I find it is helpful to have a copy of my latest chapter in my bag so if a student shows up late or I have a cancellation, I can at least pull it out and read over what I have written and jot a few edits or pencil in some new material!Though I like writing at the computer, if I'm really distracted by other things at home, I take my chapter-in-progress to a restaurant and scribble text while I wait for food and eat it. A good way not to diet. :)Athena seems to be doing very well!
