Writing update
Well, I came home from Odyssey with some grand plans about how much writing and editing I was going to get done before the semester started, and didn't get as far as I had hoped. This is what August looked like for me:Editing:Another draft of The True Story of How I Became RealAnother draft of chapter 5 of The Willow MaidenNew writing:2,000 words of a new story I am tentatively calling The Dreaming TreeResearch:The Quapaw Indians of Arkansas and the history of Hot Springs. My new story is set in a fictionalized version of Hot Springs, and I have further thoughts about the possibility of Dryads living in the area and interacting with the Quapaw before the arrival of the French and Spanish. I see this as possible material for another Dryad novel in a contemporary setting with a historical backdrop. My teenage heroine, Day Valliere, has French and Quapaw blood and possibly something a little more magical. I don't want to start another novel before I do another rigorous edit of the first one, but I want to keep this in mind and perhaps use the ideas for some short fiction.Submissions:Zero. I thought I had True Story ready to submit somewhere but I keep chickening out on that one. I plan to submit it to the Odfellows critique and get some feedback to help me decide what to do with the darn thing. In other news, my semester looks like it is going to be less busy teachingwise, but I have an excellent performing opportunity I'm really excited about.
