What a day!
Last night, I decided to go to the Contra Dance in Indianapolis for the first time. Rather than try to explain what Contra Dance is, if you really want to know, this website does a great job. I've been to a few in North Carolina with my sister and had fun. She is getting married in July, and their wedding reception will be a dance. I figured it can't hurt to get in some practice. It's great fun and quite aerobic! I started to get chicken about actually going to it (ack I am going to a place alone where I know noone and will have to find guys to dance with). Then I thought, heck, I'm not in 8th grade any more, I'm almost 40! Surely I'm mature enough to handle this.I had a great time and hope to convince Stephan into going with me when he is back in town. There were more men than women, so a few women danced the male part too. I danced with 6-8 different guys not including the "neighbors" I did a swing or two with - in contra dancing you eventually dance with everyone of the opposite gender (or in that role) as the dance progresses. Some guys like to twirl you around a lot, and one even had me up in the air a few times (eek!).So today, jealous of all the Chinese dinners Stephan's been emailing me about from Hong Kong, I treated myself to a dim sum lunch at Shanghai Lil's. Stuffed eggplant, steamed shrimp buns, and daikon cakes - yum! Before teaching, I went to a Pilates class for the first time in, well, years. It was fun and didn't kill me, but I hope I can get out of bed tomorrow.Later, upon a whim, I decided to call the Toyota dealer that had sent me a letter about a buyback program, offering me up to $1500 above blue book value for my '93 Tercel. Well, I sold that car in 2000, but called to see if they were also interested in a 2000 Civic. I know with gas prices the way they are these are in demand.I test drove a Prius and fell in love. I'm going to miss shifting gears, though. I'm getting a good deal for my Honda and now I don't have to replace the timing belt and get the tires rotated (and possibly new tires) like I had been planning. The catch is, of course they have to get their hands on a Prius, which could take 4-6 weeks. I have to leave for North Carolina in late June. I gave the guy my dates for travel to NC and he said if they can't get me a car by then, he will personally make sure I have something to drive (one of their courtesy cars) and they will just eat the cost. Ok so he convinced me and I'm getting a Prius! *Bounce bounce* I can't wait it is so cool and high tech. I can plug in my ipod and I can see the speedometer without peering under the steering wheel! I better stop writing now before I...SQUEEEEEEEE (oops too late).
