Poor Kitty

Varda went for her follow-up appointment today to see if the new diet and blood pressure pills would have an effect on her kidney function. There is good news and bad news. The good news is that her blood pressure was better (which could be due to the fact that I was with her this time when it was checked) and she has gained a little bit of weight. The bad news is that her kidney function is even worse than before. The thing that they check for is supposed to be around 2% to be normal. Hers was 3.5 last time and is now at 4.2.She loves her new drinking fountain and has been eating her special food well. She's taken her blood pressure pills in her food well (except for tonight, when she spit it out and I force-fed it to her, getting a few scratches in the process). She still runs around, jumps onto the backs of chairs, and flops over onto her back for a belly rub. The Vet says we are doing everything we can, and to bring her back in 6 weeks for another test, sooner if she becomes lethargic or loses her appetite.Poor little thing, she is still such a kitten at heart. I wonder how much longer she will be with us. I wish I knew a way to reassure her that I will do everything I can to keep her feeling well for as long as possible. I think that, to the extent that she can, she knows.
