Bought the farm
I don't know how that phrase got associated with someone's death, though there are some interesting speculations here. I am definitely quite alive. But I did just buy a share in a local organic farm through a CSA, a Community Supported Agriculture program. I'm now a member of Nature's Harvest Organics. I signed up for a 10-week early harvest membership, because I didn't want a bigger commitment until I see how well it works out. The full season is 25 weeks. What this means is that starting sometime in May, I will get a weekly shipment of locally grown organic veggies, fruits, and herbs delivered to a drop-off point in my neighborhood. I have some idea of what these items will be from a spreadsheet of what their intended crop schedule is for this year, but of course, depending on weather and other things there could be some variation. Buying a share means I assume some of the risk as well. Not all of the vegetables on the list are something I've ever cooked (Kohlrobi, anyone?) but they're going to have recipes on the web page with some ideas. I'm looking forward to my fresh veggies!I was going to put "cold" as my mood because I just went out to feed the wild cats and it's about 6 degrees. But "cold" is definitely not a mood. Actually, lots of lj mood options are not technically moods, but I'm not going to go there.
