V-day dinner
Stephan and I went out to dinner for Valentine's Day a day late, to R Bistro, a newish restaurant in town that proclaims, "we only season what's in season." Though they get a lot of their produce and meats from local sources, I asked about the fish, and was told it was mid-atlantic. I ordered it anyway, and it was delicious, served on a bed of some sort of cabbage with dark green leaves and other vegetables, crusted on top with pecans, and topped with a light orange sauce. Stephan had the filet mignon with some sort of horseradish/bacon topping. For dessert, we split a baked alaska, with cherry ice cream on chocolate cake. Yum. I would definitely go to this restaurant again. There are many restaurants in Indianapolis that have all the trappings of a fancy restaurant, even down to the presentation on the plate, but the taste of the food just doesn't hold up. In most cases, I think it is because they just don't have the art of seasoning the food down properly. I'm like the rat in the movie Ratatouille - if I'm spending the time and money on a nice dinner out, I want some interesting flavor combinations.
