Three Queens, for your listening pleasure

Because of some discussion of the Queen of the Night's vengeance aria from The Magic Flute in comments to a previous entry, I am linking to three very different renditions for your listening pleasure.Florence Foster Jenkins as the Queen of the NightThis was a cult classic when I was in college. The woman had money and loved to support the arts. Too bad she couldn't sing. In this example, she breaks one of those important rules of singing: choose something in which you can actually hit the notes. In her case, this would be somewhat limiting.Boy Soprano as the Queen of the NightSomeone sent me a link to this a while back. He does indeed hit the notes, and the facial expressions are priceless.Rita Streich as the Queen of the NightNow this is the way this aria is supposed to sound. Her voice is a classic coloratura. The role is often performed by sopranos with bigger voices who can hit the high notes, but I think a lighter voice often handles them better.
