Athena is 18

I don't know her exact birthdate, but I got Athena from an animal shelter in Boston in May of 1992 when she was estimated to be three months old, so that would put her birthday in February. When I went to the cage where she was, along with two sisters, she walked right up to the front of the cage, put her paw out through the bars, and touched my nose. She's been my baby ever since.I'm not sure she'll live through the month. I'm having to force-feed her baby food through a syringe, as she's not eating well pretty much no matter what we try to give her. She acts like she's hungry and requests food, but when we put it in her dish, she just looks at it. We're giving her fluids for her kidneys, the same way we did for Varda. I suspect there may be some other underlying health problem besides the kidney disease, because the Vet said her numbers weren't that bad and thought the fluids may help stabilize her. I'm not sure subjecting her to more tests is worthwhile at this point. The poor thing is all skin and bones. She doesn't seem to be in pain and still purrs when I pick her up and hold her, and gets around the house ok, if slowly and with a swaying gait. The past two nights, I have taken her to bed with me and held her against my chest. She presses her face right up against mine and purrs and purrs. I don't know what else to do for her except let her know she is loved. I've been telling Freya and Narvi that they should learn from her while they can, and that I hope someday I will love them as much as I love Athena.
