Quick update
I've fixed and expanded some things in my short story, "The Fair Emilia," bringing it to 4,108 words. It's due tomorrow for a workshop and I'm going to have another read tomorrow morning and maybe do a bit of small edits and tinkering before sending it out.Tomorrow, my short story "Courting the Witch" (formerly known as "The Witch's Cat," the title may change again) is being critiqued by my local group. I'll be interested to see how they react. It's intended to be humorous, with a hate-worthy antihero who isn't terribly self-aware.Today, I gave a guest lecture in stephan_laurent's class about my part in writing the story for the ballet "The Willow Maiden" and the process of transforming it into a novel. This has made me really itch to dive back into the novel rewrite. I can't do this yet, as I immerse myself in short story land for another month or so. The goal of this is to try to come out of TNEO with some honest-to-goodness short stories that aren't novel wannabes that I can feel good about sending out for the inevitable rejections. The intended side benefit is that this will force me to focus on some of the minutia of craft that will make my eyes sharper the next time I look at the novel.
